The BC Heritage Finals held at Thunderbird Show Park July 15 – 17, 2011, proved to be a resounding success with 76 equestrians of all ages competing for the Top Awards and $ 10,000.00 in Prize money divided between 100 Championship Classes of Dressage, Jumper, Western Performance, English Performance, Games Speed Events, and Driving. Entries at this year’s Finals increased by 40 % from 2010 as the BC Heritage Circuit grows in popularity throughout the province.
Competitors qualify each year from July 1 to July 1, and must place in the top 4 places at a minimum of 2 local shows approved as BC Heritage Circuit Qualifier Events throughout the year preceding the Finals. The Annual BC Heritage Circuit Championship Final is traditionally held in July of each year at various locations throughout BC. Competitors must purchase a $10.00 Logbook to record their qualifying results annually, available either at the Qualifier Shows or through the Horse Council BC office.
This year’s exhibitors travelled from all over BC to the Finals in Langley, BC, with the help of Horse Council BC and the Government of BC Sport on the Move Travel Assistance grants available for riders travelling from Zones 1,2,6,7 or 8 to the Finals. Enthusiastic riders this year were able to compete in two shows in one weekend, with the LMQHA Summer Quarter Horse Show running concurrently with the BC Heritage Finals at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley. This created a big show environment on the grounds with over 200 horses exhibiting and socializing, while paying only one fee to camp and stable their horses for the weekend. A country style Barbeque Dinner was held on the Saturday night and enjoyed by many exhibitors.
Horse Council BC would like to thank our Sponsors, Prairie Coast Equipment, Capri Insurance, Bates Tack Shop, and Northridge Farm for their support, as well a big thanks to all the great Volunteers that helped to make the 2011 BC Heritage Circuit Finals a successful and fun competition for all who participated.
Some of the highlights include:
The Western Performance Division Versatility Award went to Hailey Blattler with Foolish Attraction, who won a first in Western Equitation, 13 & under, and came in the top three in several other classes. The BC Heritage Circuit is a provincial program designed to preserve the versatility of General Performance across British Columbia by supporting community horse clubs, generating interest and encouraging riders, coaches and breeders to achieve personal success at competitions at an introductory or grassroots level. Horse Council BC supports and facilitates the activities that take place at qualifying events to ensure riders of all ages, recreational or competitive, have the opportunity to compete, and to ensure that provincial officials are well trained and educated and all horse breeds are recognized for their most desirable traits. The annual BC Heritage Finals rewards riders, owners and trainers for their dedication having qualified locally at a minimum number of qualifier competitions throughout the province of BC
This program is designed to promote and encourage participation in western, english, hunter, hack, jumper, dressage, and driving. Competitors of all ages and skill level can qualify throughout the province for the Championships held each July. The qualifying season begins July 1st and ends June 25th of the current year.
